W@nderFabric is a Japanese fashion brand creating caps using kimonos, Japanese traditional clothing.
Nowadays, opportunities to wear kimonos have decreased in Japan.
Thus, many kimonos that once colorfully painted the streets of Japan are sleeping in chests.
The mission of W@nderFabric is to awaken these kimonos and upcycle them to integrate them with today’s modern fashion.

のKIMONOCAPは2019年より埼玉県本庄市に自社工房を設立し、
独学でCAP作りを学び製品化に至りました。
2016年にブランドを設立し、工場生産を行ってきましたが、
解体した着物から作れるCAPの数は限られており、柄や厚みなどが変わります。
大量生産を目的とする工場では裁断や糸の色、生地の伸縮率による縫製の臨機応変が難しく、
工場での生産が困難となり様々な工場よりお断りを頂きました。
今考えると”そりゃそうだ”と思います。
新作を工場で作れなくなる状況となった事から、自分で作れるようになるしかない。
と自分に無茶ブリし、ハンドメイドでの製品化を目指しました。
必要なミシンを揃える事から、どうやってCAP作るのか全く分からない所から始まりました。
様々なCAPを解体したりYouTubeで海外の帽子工場の動画を毎日寝落ちするまで見まくりました。
約半年間、工房に引きこもり100の謎を毎日１つずつ解いていくような作業でした。
糸の太さ、糸の種類、針の太さ、芯の厚みや素材、アタッチメント、油の種類。
とにかく謎は全てでした。
何も分からない僕には本当に苦しい日々で、
できないんじゃないかとまで思い、焦る事もありました。
じょじょに慣れ、少しずつ作れるようになってくると楽しくなってきました。
生地の個性によって臨機応変に作品を作り、
イメージ通り作れると幸せさえ感じるようになりました。
そして、現在は作り続ける事が当たり前となり僕自身であるようになりました。
W@nderFabricのCAPの生地は古い着物を使用しています。
明治後半から昭和初期の古い着物を仕入れ、手作業で解体しています。
解体作業は育児中のママさんや仕事を引退したおばちゃんに内職としてお願いしています。
解体・クリーニングを経た着物は綺麗な反物に戻り、生産が始まります。
その他に、日本の産地織物を使用しています。
様々な産地の人に出会い話を聞くと、様々な産地の伝統織物の継続が厳しい状態であること、
需要の低迷や後継者不足など、日本の伝統織物を未来に残す事が難しい状況に悩む方が多い事を学びました。
W@nderFabricでは日本の様々な産地織物を使用し、その生地や歴史を紹介していきます。
伝統や歴史を知ることで未来に生きる日本の生地やファッションが生まれる事を信じ、
伝統や歴史を知ることで未来に生きる日本の子供たちの誇りとなる事を信じています。
In 2019, I established W@nderFabric atelier in Honjo, Saitama, and startedmaking caps by myself.
In 2016, I established my own brand and the products were made at a factory.
But the number of caps that can be made from a kimono is limited and each kimono’s fabric has different patterns and thicknesses. In addition, there were many problems, such as cutting the fabric, the threads changing color and
sewing. So it was difficult to make a lot of products in the factory. I asked, butthey declined.
So I decided to make caps by myself, bought a sewing machine, and started learning how to make them. I took a lot of caps apart and watched YouTube to the point of exhaustion. For half a year, I shut myself in my own atelier and solved dozens of problems each day: thread thickness, kinds of thread, needle thickness, thickness and material of core fabrics, attachments, and kinds of oil.
Caps were a complete mystery. But I found joy in making caps. I felt happy when I could make products just as I imagined them. Now, making caps is apart of me.
W@nderFabric’s Caps are made from old kimono that are from the second half of the Meiji era to the first half of the Showa. Now my friends help me to take kimono and obi apart. After that, I remove dust and dirt from the materials by using my own original method which uses water to revitalize the cloth.
Sometimes I use cloth from traditional weaving areas. I also have the opportunity to talk with various people. They told me about the problems they faced. So I learned that it is difficult to bring Japanese traditional textiles in thefuture.
So W@nderFabric is going to introduce the history and birthplace of traditional textiles and is proud to bring this new fashion to the next generations.

１９５０年代 前後の着物・帯を仕入れ、生地に戻してCAP製作をしております。
着物や帯からは作れるCAPの数が限られております。
また、柄によってはそれぞれ表情も変わります。
着物CAPでは、織りの風合いと色とりどりの柄が特徴｡
素材はシルクやウールが多く、綿や麻などもあります。
柄には、自然と共存していたアイディを感じられるデザインが施されています。
草や花、山や雲、扇やツルなど様々な模様には全てそれぞれの意味を持っております。
そこには、かつて日本を鮮やかに飾った時代の空気感があります。
帯CAPでは、豪華な刺繍と煌びやかな金糸、着物生地には無い凹凸感が特徴。
主にシルク素材で、生地も厚く、重みと存在感は他にはないCAPとなります。
帯には縁起物を多く含んだデザインが多く、日本らしさ満載です。
弊社は古着物、帯を仕入れ、手作業により解体を行い、
水を通した独自のクリーニング方法でほこりや汚れを落とし、
再度生地へ戻し生産しております。
生産工程の中で、２００度近い高温で熱殺菌を行い、
生地には芯や裏地を付けますので直接肌に触れない仕様となっております。
新品同様の製品になるよう努力しておりますが、
避けられない若干の染み、傷、においなどが残る場合がございます。
古布ならではの風合いと、ご理解頂けますようお願い申し上げます。
I buy kimonos from the 1950s. I disassemble them and make caps.
From a kimono I can make 4 to 8 caps and from an obi 2 to 4 caps.
The number of caps that can be made is limited.
You can enjoy the weaving and patterns of each kimonos and obis.
The materials are mainly silk, wool, cotton and hemp.
The patterns of kimonos and obis make you feel that the Japanese coexisted with nature.
The patterns of grass, flowers, mountains, clouds,
fans and cranes have different meanings.
In the obi caps, you can enjoy luxurious embroidery and
rough texture which kimonos’ fabrics do not have.
The caps are mainly made of fabric thick, silk, there is weight and presence.
They are packed with lots of lucky items and packed with Japanese style.
I do not only purchase kimonos and obis but also take them apart by myself. In addition,
I remove dust and dirt from the materials
by using my own original method which uses water to revitalize the cloth.
In the production process, I sterilize the cloth at a temperature of nearly 200 degrees.
The back of the caps have a wick and lining so that they do not touch your skin directly.
I strive to make products as good as new.
